Absen’s A Series Transforms Frontwave Arena into a High-Impact Entertainment Hub

Absen Case Study w/ Sound Image | Frontwave Arena - Home of the San Diego Clippers

Orlando, FL – May 15, 2025 – As fans pour into Frontwave Arena, the energy is electric. Whether it’s for a San Diego Clippers game, a San Diego Sockers match or a concert under the lights, the venue in Oceanside, California sets the stage for high-intensity action and entertainment. Opened in 2024, Frontwave Arena is the first large-scale indoor venue in San Diego’s North County and home to the NBA G League, MASL, and IFL teams all under one roof.

To meet the demands of a multi-purpose sports and entertainment venue, the leadership team at Frontwave Arena sought out a visual technology partner that could deliver impact, reliability and long-term value. Their search led them to Absen’s A Series LED displays, which is renowned for its unmatched brightness, clarity and all-weather durability. The A Series is purpose-built for both indoor and outdoor high-traffic environments and designed to deliver a front-row viewing experience from anywhere in the venue.

“I have to look at products from end to end,” said Hans Haas, project manager for the venue’s integrator, Sound Image. “It’s not just about price points, but it’s about whether the product can effectively deliver the client’s vision. Choosing this product, which was really the centerpiece of the install, was absolutely the right call. It fit the budget, offered high quality and durability, and came with strong manufacturer support.”

At the heart of the arena’s digital infrastructure, the A Series is the primary visual feature, bringing content to life across events. Engineered with high-quality LEDs and advanced brightness control, the A Series boast a stunning 10,000 nits of brightness, ensuring vivid, crisp visuals that hold up under stage lighting, arena floodlights or even direct sunlight. With Absen’s System on a Chip (SoC) technology integrated, the displays eliminate the need for traditional media players, simplifying operations and reducing potential failure points.

Known for its ultra-low power consumption of less than 1 KWH per square meter per day, the A Series offers up to 50% energy savings compared to standard LED displays. With sustainability playing an increasingly important role in operational planning, the display’s low carbon footprint was a natural fit for a self-funded, community-oriented facility like Frontwave Arena. Additionally, durability proved essential for a venue that hosts fast-paced soccer and indoor football games.

“These boards have proven tough,” said Eric Holcomb, chief technology officer for Frontwave Arena. “We’ve had plenty of soccer strikes since launch, and they’ve held up well, easily popping back into place when needed.”

In addition to rugged reliability, the A Series provides superior visual performance, producing stunning imagery with deep blacks and vibrant colors that elevate the live experience for every fan in attendance. Haas explained, “When we first turned on the walls and loaded a test image, everyone on-site stopped and said, ‘Wow—those look incredible.’”

“The technology that Absen has implemented at Frontwave Arena is truly unique,” noted Travis Tuttle, channel manager for Absen Inc. “It enables fan interaction across the entire venue, whether it’s a concert, a soccer match or a basketball game.”

The A Series plays a major role in the arena’s in-game entertainment strategy, serving as a dynamic platform to engage fans, elevate sponsor visibility and direct attention to food vendors, promotions and special segments. The A Series’ high brightness and resilience allow for uninterrupted performance in all lighting conditions, ensuring content remains eye-catching throughout every event.

Marybeth Hughes, director of game presentation and live events for Frontwave Arena, highlighted how the displays enhance key moments, stating, “I believe the most powerful thing that we do in our building is our player introductions. We usually go to a complete blackout, and it creates this immersive experience where it’s pitch black and the Absen technology just seems to be higher quality. The screens can definitely be pushed to their limit, creating that overall in-game fan experience.”

Backed by a 10-year warranty and engineered for long-term performance, the A Series offers Frontwave Arena confidence in its investment by combining technical innovation with quality.

“Every venue, corporation or business has a message they’re trying to share,” explained Tuttle. “The more we can collaborate to help them tell that story, the more successful we’ll both be. That’s really our goal, to build strong partnerships and ensure everyone is thrilled with the outcome when the project wraps up.”

Together, Absen’s A Series and Frontwave Arena have created an immersive, durable and efficient display solution that empowers the venue to deliver unforgettable experiences, no matter the event, weather, or lighting conditions.
